CHRISTOPHER J. GRIMAUD SCHOLARSHIP

A DECADE TO REMEMBER

By HQ Staff

On the morning of November 9, 2013, Brother Christopher Grimaud Ole Miss ‘12 joined Chapter Eternal after being involved in a tragic automobile accident. His older brother, Michael Grimaud ’10 also was a Phi Psi at Ole Miss. Their mother stated, “Phi Psi will always hold a special place in our hearts because of what the brothers and the Fraternity meant to our sons.” The family recalled busloads of Phi Psis who drove through the night to be with them during the mass for Chris. Brothers stood at every pew, served as honor guards and participated in the graveside service. Until the very end his brothers were with him.

And they still are. A decade later, eight Phi Psi brothers can say Chris still has a profound impact on their lives. In their son’s honor and memory, Chris’ parents established the scholarship through the Foundation which annually is presented to an Ole Miss brother with financial need and who excels in extracurricular activities, philanthropic contributions and/or community involvement.

Swenson

Blake Swenson Ole Miss ’19, the 2022 scholarship recipient admitted, “Money has always been a stressor for me — working, while balancing my studies, extracurricular activities and my volunteer interests is tough. Focusing on making the next dollar and worrying about my finances sure does take its toll.”

That is why these scholarship funds are so important. Giving back is core to life as a Phi Psi, and this is an excellent way to perpetuate the bonds of brotherhood. “To give aid and sympathy to all who are less fortunate.”

When awarded the scholarship, Brother Swenson expressed deep gratitude by saying, “Chris’ family suffered the ultimate loss. I hope as they look upon my receiving this award, they find joy in knowing they are helping a young man achieve his dreams. I’m grateful in their darkest times, they were able to see how to spread joy, hope and possibility to others.”

As members of Phi Psi continue to engage with the organization and grow these funds, more and more young men of integrity will benefit. Learning at a young age the power fraternal connectedness is what fuels the legacy of Chris Grimaud — and others like him.

Storer

The most recent recipient, Nick Storer Ole Miss ’21 has been able to fully embrace the Fraternity at Mississippi Alpha. An active member of the Philanthropy Committee, Brother Storer is extremely grateful to be awarded the 2023 scholarship. “I am honored to know there are supporting alumni who are actively and directly helping brothers like me.”

Inaugural recipient, Jon Polizzi Ole Miss ’14 said, “Being a recipient of the scholarship means so much to me. Christopher was my first cousin. He and his brother Michael were a big reason why I attended Ole Miss and joined Phi Kappa Psi.” Now Brother Polizzi volunteers to review scholarship applications for the Foundation. “I am honored to be part of a committee that helps select recipients of this scholarship each year. I encourage members to apply every year. Hopefully it will make a positive impact for someone who loves Ole Miss and Phi Psi as much as Christopher and I do.”

Polizzi

Phi Kappa Psi draws brothers together creating bonds never to be severed. Some of the briefest of lives, such as Christopher’s, have illuminated the path for others to follow and to flourish. This stands as a good reminder that in life and in death, we are united by friendship. Live Ever. Die Never.
