Phi Kappa Psi mourns the loss of Brother John Kent Boyd III 

It is with deep sadness Phi Kappa Psi shares that Brother John Kent Boyd III Kansas ’59 entered Chapter Eternal on June 15, 2020.  

Brother Boyd was initiated into the Kansas Alpha chapter at the University of Kansas on February 22, 1959. He served as the 48th National President for Phi Kappa Psi from 1982–84. Brother Boyd also served as National Vice President from 1980–82 and National Treasurer from 1976-80. He was also a member of the Order of the S.C.  

“Brother Boyd was a gracious man who was passionate about Phi Psi, diplomatic and principled in his work on behalf of the Fraternity, and someone who had a great sense of humor,” shares National Vice President Bob Marchesani IUP ’79 who served as an Archon when Boyd when president. 

National President David Moyer Alabama ’91 has declared a 30-day period of mourning in memory and gratitude for the life of Boyd. Brothers should shroud their badges and chapter shields in mourning as outlined in Rituals and Ceremonies of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, effective through July 30, 2020.  

Boyd is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debbie; his sister Barbara (John Noell) and her daughter Meaghan; his son Jake; his daughter Melissa, her husband Jon Bodway and their children – Evelyn and Calder; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandi and Dan Witt. The family will have a private celebration of his life at Lake Quivira.
