2003 Scholarship Recipient Pays it Forward

For Tim Grosshuesch UMN Duluth ’02, a national scholarship didn’t just lighten the load of student debt — it helped pave the way for his personal and professional journey. In this short video, Tim reflects on receiving the Solon Summerfield National Scholarship in 2003 and the lasting effect it had on his early career and his sense of purpose within Phi Kappa Psi. Watch the video below to hear Tim’s story in his own words.

“I felt this scholarship was not just a financial gift to help me with my undergraduate costs, but I viewed it as a loan that I needed to pay back at some point in the course of my life.”

What stands out in Tim’s story isn’t just the financial support — it’s the mindset shift. He saw the scholarship not only as a gift, but as a responsibility. That perspective continues to guide him today, as he gives back to the organization that helped shape his undergraduate experience.

This spring, Tim is stepping up once again… this time as a scholarship reviewer. By sharing his time and insight, he’s helping identify and support the next generation of undergraduate leaders.

Whether you’ve received a scholarship or simply believe in the power of brotherhood and academic excellence, there are meaningful ways to get involved. Reviewing scholarship applications is one way alumni can make a real difference. Just ask Tim!

As a National Scholarship Reviewer, you have the opportunity to meet dozens of your undergraduate brothers, who are eager to serve and give back to their community and Phi Psi.
