Phi Kappa Psi Announces the Suspension of Its University of Nebraska–Lincoln Chapter
Indianapolis, IN – The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity announces the suspension of the Nebraska Alpha Chapter (Nebraska) based upon a collaborative discussion and agreement with The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the alumni leadership of Nebraska Alpha.
The Nebraska Alpha Housing Corporation has voluntarily surrendered the chapter’s charter to the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity National Headquarters.
All Phi Kappa Psi activities have been suspended on campus. This suspension is due to members taking part in conduct which violated the Fraternity’s standards and expectations with regard to risk management, and which contradict The Creed and values of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. The chapter house will not be occupied by chapter members following the spring 2017 semester. Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity regrets the negative impact its members had on The University of Nebraska-Lincoln community.
The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity is committed to working with University of Nebraska-Lincoln officials and Nebraska Alpha alumni to return to campus in the spring 2018 semester. Phi Kappa Psi eagerly anticipates once again having a model chapter on campus.
Decisions to suspend a chapter are among the most difficult a Fraternity’s leadership and staff must make; decisions which are not taken lightly. Nevertheless, when circumstances dictate and the best interests of the Fraternity are at risk, suspension will be considered in partnership with the campus and the chapter’s alumni leadership. Phi Kappa Psi’s leadership and staff are foremost committed to educating, leading and inspiring our undergraduate and alumni members to make positive and constructive decisions.
The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity is a 501(c)(7) association of men of integrity who strive to develop the individual in his intellect, in his involvement in the community and in his faith. The Fraternity was founded on February 19, 1852 at Jefferson College by William Henry Letterman and Charles Page Thomas Moore. It currently has more than 100 chapters across the United States, with over 6,500 undergraduate members and over 80,000 living alumni.
