Supporting Each Other:
Addressing Sports Betting and Gambling in 2025
As we enter 2025, many of us are setting goals and making positive changes in our lives. While not all of us may struggle with sports betting or gambling, it’s essential to be aware of these issues and support our brothers who may be facing challenges in this area. If you or someone you know is concerned about their gambling habits, taking a free, quick gambling quiz can provide valuable insight.
Being There for Our Brothers
If you have a brother who has realized that cutting down on betting or stopping fully is the right step for them, it’s crucial that we support them in setting themselves up for success. Our partner, Birches Health, specializes in gambling addiction treatment and offers the following recommendations:
- Self-Exclusion and App Blockers
Encourage your brother to add themselves to a self-exclusion list, which will block access to gambling apps and their promotions. Birches Health can guide them through the process and suggest effective blockers. - Counseling
Birches Health provides personalized therapy and free virtual group sessions to help address gambling addiction. Let your brother know that they can access these services from the comfort of their own home. - Find New Activities
Help your brother find new hobbies, exercise routines, or other productive activities to fill their free time and replace the feelings that gambling once provided. Offer to join them in these activities and provide encouragement. - Build a Support Network
Be a part of your brother’s support network, along with other trusted friends, family, or a counselor from Birches Health. Offer guidance and accountability as they move forward on their journey.
As Phi Kappa Psi brothers, we have a responsibility to look out for one another and support each other through challenges. Whether we struggle with gambling ourselves or know someone who does, let’s make 2025 a year of unity, growth, and well-being. Together, we can create a strong network of support and encouragement within our brotherhood.
